Gold medals galore as Grantham hosts Mini Olympics event

Grantham Together

The 17th annual Inspire+ Mini Olympics began in Grantham on Tuesday, June 11.

Hosted within the South Kesteven Sports Stadium, the event was organised in partnership with Inspire+, a sports and education charity founded in 2011.

Beginning with a parade from all participating Grantham schools, over 750 schoolchildren proudly showed off banners they designed that celebrated a particular country.

The David Price Memorial Banner Trophy was up for grabs for the best banner, won by Huntingtower Primary representing Greece.

The schoolchildren then participated in numerous non-competitive sports and activities including boxercise, American football and badminton.

Celebrity athletes including hurdler Dai Greene and Sarah Outen MBE were also in attendance, speaking to the children and signing autographs.

Inspire+ celebrated the ‘fantastic start’ of the Mini Olympics by sharing photos on its Facebook page, with numerous people posting their own thanks for the charity and praising the event.

“All the children taking part did amazing,” commented one parent.

Over 2500 primary school children are expected to take part across the Mini Olympics' 3 days, with schools in Stamford and Bourne set to next participate.
