Singing In The Rain !

Sixteen-year-old local artist receives standing ovation at first live gig

A Grantham singer has amazed audiences at her first live gig performance.

Hermione Johnson, 16, performed at The Conduit Tea Garden this weekend on Saturday, June 15.

She sang through a set list of 15 songs, ranging from ‘Back To Black’ by Amy Winehouse to ‘All Of Me’ by John Legend.

Despite the rainy conditions, she continued to shine brightly and interact with the audience, receiving cheers of praise after every track.

Hermione also performed a song she wrote at age 14 entitled ‘I Hate Myself’, which details the emotions someone feels during a breakup.

“I just love writing down my feelings, all my songs have a personal meaning behind them,” she said.

In 2022, Hermione was going to give up on her dreams of being a singer, feeling discouraged by the fact that there was no popular singer from her hometown.

“That’s when I got exposed to Holly Humberstone who’s a real inspiration for me, and she completely reignited my passion for singing,” Hermione said.

Humberstone, who originated from Grantham, has toured with the likes of Lewis Capaldi and Olivia Rodrigo, and received worldwide fame following the release of her EP ‘Falling Asleep at The Wheel’.

“That’s why I want to genuinely thank everyone who came to see me and everyone who came to see me and everyone who helped me today. I feel like this community now cares about local artists and it was great to see so many faces,” Hermione said.

Whilst performing at the venue, Hermione also livestreamed herself on her TikTok page, with over 100 people tuning in to watch the young singer.

“I really hope to see myself do big tours, concerts and have people scream my name in the future. This is what I want to do as a career. This is what I love,” she said.
